The Pentagon published a sixth collection of declassified and historical UAP files on September 18. The release is part of PURSUE, the US government initiative for making records about unidentified phenomena publicly accessible.

More records become available

The official announcement identifies the release as part of the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters. The collection is hosted on the government’s UFO records portal. According to the announcement, the department and partner agencies are working on further releases, with additional files to be published on a rolling basis.

Newly public does not mean newly observed

The government describes the collection as declassified and historical material. Its publication date therefore indicates when records became available, not necessarily when the events they describe occurred. Readers should distinguish the date of an observation from the date its documentation was released.

Unresolved cases require context

The general PURSUE portal says its archived cases are unresolved: the government cannot definitively determine the nature of the observed phenomena. Insufficient data can be one reason. That is different from identifying something as extraterrestrial.

How to assess the release

Editorial analysis: useful questions include who made the observation, what measurements are available and whether an accompanying analysis exists. An official release confirms that a record was published. The reliability and meaning of its contents still need to be assessed case by case.
